WEDDING // Annie & Jon’s Colourful Eco-friendly Dover Wedding

I loved this wedding from our glorious summer that now seems so long ago.  We even made it down to the beach which, for someone who loves the sea as much as I do, is pretty magic.

Annie & Jon live abroad and managed to whizz up this beautiful wedding all the way from Taiwan – impressive stuff considering how many little details and thoughtful little touches there were sprinkled around.  As I was brought up in Hong Kong I loved seeing little things that reminded me of home – like the double happiness signs strewed about and the origami cranes that decorated the reception room. And Annie’s floral headpiece? Love love love love love. Love. LOVE.

Big thanks to Cristina Rossi for seconding on this wedding and a massive thank you to Annie & Jon – for being so laid back and awesome to work with. I wish you guys every happiness! xxx

WEDDING // Sam and Sarah’s Multi Coloured Festival Wedding

Outdoor Festival Wedding_152
I met Sarah for the first time in the Albion on Redchurch Street on a hot summer’s day when it seemed that the world and his wife were out soaking up the sun.  I remember thinking, as we poured over her pinterest board  oh wow, this wedding sounds fun.  Little did I know. A field full of tipis,  an army tea-mobile, an infinite number of wellies, lots of dancing, Sarah’s nana’s wedding dress, and a KILOMETRE of fairy lights later, I left quite sure that Sarah & Sam’s wedding day had to be right up there as one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever had the joy of photographing. And the food, oh good grief, the food… And on top of that it all looked awesome. Since Sam is a photographer himself and Sarah is a creative stylist for Jamie Oliver, how could it look anything but? Massive respect to Sarah for being probably the calmest bride ever who, half an hour before the ceremony whipped up a bouquet for herself and three bridesmaids.  Amazing. Big thanks to Tracey Barrow for coming along for the ride and a big, BIG thank you to Sarah and Sam for having me along. If I remember correctly there’s a certain Catalan saying that might be appropriate, but probably not printable in public. :)

PERSONAL // Skye

London is a brilliant place, but sometimes you’ve just got to bolt for the hills; to find some fresh air, dip a toe, walk in the mud, chase the wind… all that.

Lots of love to my two beautiful friends, Caro and Shell who adventured round a blustery Isle of Skye with me in a brave little Fiat 500.  Being wedding photographers themselves, there were a total of 5 cameras between us (and a teeny tiny tripod). In a bid to keep things simple, these were all taken with my 5D Markiii and only one lens, as well as the new love of my life, my small but very effective Fuji x100s.  The little guy is a ninja.  A beautiful little ninja.

We met some hearty souls along the way including a ukelele-playing hitchiker, a sea captain with the most beautiful love story, and the friendliest oysterman you’ll ever chance upon.  Shout outs at the bottom of the post to places, people and small businesses who made our trip five star – there are lots of them, and if you ever head to that part of the world, they’ll make you feel very welcome.  Skye itself is the most magical and perfect place you could ever hope to set your eyes on. If you want your heart stolen, you know where to go.

Same again next year?

And finally, here’s a photo of me and Caro taken by Shell proving conclusively that I wear ridiculous Christmas reindeer jumpers in Autumn.

We slept, cooked and drank buckets of tea here: https://www.facebook.com/NumberOneCarbost
We guzzled oysters and bought venison from here:  http://www.skyeoysterman.co.uk/
We had a bevvie or two and listened to live music here:  http://www.theoldinnskye.co.uk/
We ferried out to sea and watched eagles and seals with: https://www.facebook.com/wildskyeboattrips

WEDDING // Jess & Tony’s Petersham Nurseries Wedding

I’ve been such a rubbish blogger recently and I promise you it’s not because there’s a dearth of things for me to blog. To be honest, it’s quite the contrary.  I’ve been a busy little bee, working on the some super weddings – so super and fun and beautiful that I have to pinch myself now and again – I can’t believe it’s my job to photograph them.  Happy days! :)

First up, I think I need to blog Jess and Tony’s absolutely brilliant and fun wedding. Why? Because they had their reception in one of my now most favourite London wedding venues, Petersham Nurseries. It was such a gorgeous, blistering day and it would be completely wrong of me to show it to you later in the year when the weather’s a bit miserable.   Seems only fair, no?

I think what really stood out for me about this wedding was how much fun it was. Be it the surprise appearance of an oompah band, a spontaneous outbreak of dancing, a magician, or the fancy dress props that made their way round the guests all evening, there was always something to keep the guests smiling. For me, it was just how a wedding should be – a proper, heartfelt, joyful celebration.  Extra special mention must go to the fabulous Choccywoccydoodah cake (just. wow.) and the brilliant illuminated letters from Vowed & Amazed.

Thank you so much to Karen Flower for seconding on this one, and a big thank you to Jess and Tony for having us along on the day, for putting together a perfect day, and for looking after us so, so well. xx

Jenna Carpenter - WOW the venue looks so magical at night! Beautiful! Kat, you have captured so many little details in this wedding, it looks a fun filled day!September 10, 2013 – 1:30 pm

Splendid xxSeptember 10, 2013 – 4:06 pm

Charley - As I said… I actually think this is wedding of the year in my book! Just wow, beautiful, intimate, cosy, pretty – the ceremony, the music the gran, the red wine in carafes… just love it all!!! What a fabulous day and gorgeous couple. The shot you got outside the church of the two sets of women is ace too. xSeptember 10, 2013 – 9:04 pm

WEDDING // Caesara & James’ Camden Town Hall & 6 St Chads Wedding

It’s funny how I’ll remember this wedding as a wedding of exclamation marks.

OMG that dress!  (by the immensly talented Charlotte of Wilden Bride)
Those eyes!
Those shoes!
A gospel choir in the ceremony! (and OMG they’re Caesara’s students!)
Oh no, the rain! And thunder!
Aww, the cutest flowergirls and nephew!
And finally, we come full circle – OMG that dress!  (yes, a second gorgeous one)

Caesara & James are the best kind of people, fun and laid back, and they chose to have a wedding that suited them perfectly.  From the venue (6 St Chads), to Caesara’s choice(s) of dress(es) – everything just seemed to be just them and that’s what made the day so brilliant.  I have to admit, as the rain rolled in after the ceremony I was a bit worried about getting all the shots in I needed to, but it just goes to show how ace these two are that when I hesitantly asked them, brolly in hand, if they wouldn’t mind popping out in the rain for some pics I was met with a resounding of course! Thanks guys, for being so brilliant. :)  I wish you every happiness in your future together! x

Mille grazie to Jack Davolio for seconding on this one!
