ENGAGEMENTS // Christiana & Owain’s Kenwood House Engagement Session

Christiana is one of the most glamourous people I know.  When I first met her over a year ago, I had MAJOR spangly-hair-accessory-envy.   And OMG, does she rock a red lippie.

I met up with Christiana and her lovely fiance Owain a few days ago for their prewedding session.   We spent a couple of windy hours in the grounds of Kenwood House up in North London, and what a gorgeous day.  It was a pretty laid back, sunny afternoon and I absolutely love the photos we got.  Most of all, cheesy as it sounds, I love the way Owain looks at his bride to be.

LITTLE’UNS // ROISIN’S CHRISTENING

North London Christening

Baby Roisin is a gorgeous little superstar.  I have no hesitation in saying that, because in the two hours  I spent photographing her Christening, she didn’t cry once. In fact, I don’t think she even so much as pulled a frowny face.  She might have got a little wriggly and unimpressed when we were taking a few group shots, but she must have known there was a party waiting for her down the road, so really, who can blame her? :)

FRIDAY FAVES // This Week’s Good Stuff 16.06.12

It’s Father’s day on Sunday! Have you remembered to send a card?  This pic is of me and my pops, waaaaay back in that fuzzy little decade called the 80s.  I think we must have been going for a walk in the hills around Hong Kong.  My dad used to rock a beard, didn’t he?!   And yes, I was a little monster of a poseur when I was little. Photographers amongst you will appreciate the chin-to-shoulder thing I got going on.  Sue Bryce eat your heart out ;)

This week I’ve been in France. Pottering about in between thunderstorms, doing a little bit of restorative gardening when the weather was good and, and when the weather was bad, editing and googling “Vitamin D deficiency symptoms”.  My biggest sadness was the camera-shaped hole in my week.  Thanks to Ryainair and their extortionate luggage charges I didn’t feel like I could wanted to afford the £100 it would have cost me to check in baggage (making space in my handheld for my gear).  I really regretted it though. A pox on you Ryanair, for forcing us to make such impossible choices.

// ONE FOR THE COLOURIFIC //
This washi tape Happy Keyboard by Minifanfan has given me much joy.  I love washi tape.

// ONE FOR THE STEREO //
I don’t really have a clue about what’s happening in the world of music, but the other day on Spotify I stumbled on to a random stranger’s playlist and discovered Polica. Apparently it’s all over the radio at the moment.  Maybe I should listen to the radio.

// ONE FOR RUSTIC CHIC BRIDES //
Isn’t this woodsy rustic wedding on Green Wedding Shoes a beaut? Socks. Charmed. Right. Off.  Love the darkness  and richness of it.

// ONE FOR THE CONTEMPLATIVE //
I was really moved by photographer Magdalena Sole’s collection documenting the aftermath of the Japanese tsunami.  No dramatic photos here, just images of quiet, surreal devastation. I would say it was beautiful but it somehow seems wrong.

WEDDING // Caroline & Jeff’s Bijou Islington Town Hall Wedding

Isn’t Caroline’s dress the most gorgeous blue you’ve ever seen?  But really, everything about this Islington Town Hall civil ceremony was so beautiful.  Caroline & Jeff  (& bump!), were wonderful  to photograph too – I really could have taken pictures of them all day.  It was a shame that their wedding was SO bijou I was only there for an hour.

That’s’ right. One hour.  Four guests. Weddings don’t get much more intimate than that.  Even though I didn’t have much time, I really wanted to get as much emotion, joy, laughter, warmth and beauty from those 60 minutes as possible.  As I upload the photos, I’m happy, because I see all those things in these images.

Thank you to Caro Hutchings for giving me a hand, and a big thank you to Caroline & Jeff & guests for having us there and being so welcoming.  I wish you many, many more hours of  joy and laughter together x

ENGAGEMENTS // Georgia & Ben’s Sunkissed Brighton Shoot

Meet Georgia & Ben.  They’re getting married this summer in the glorious English countryside and you know what? I absolutely can NOT wait to shoot their wedding.   If our few hours in Brighton are anything to go by, it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Sometimes at the start of an engagement shoot, couples eye my camera gear suspiciously and suddenly forget what to do with their limbs (that’s cool, I’d be the same   much worse).  Not these two though. From the get go they couldn’t keep their hands off each other and were just so naturally lovely together I really didn’t have to give them much direction (awwww, guys!).  In fact, I’m pretty sure at one point I had to shout for them to stop doing all that cute stuff while I was changing a lens. ;)

It was absolutely heaving in Brighton, and we couldn’t help but get a few nosey looks.  This one is my favourite though….sly grin or what?

I think my favourite part of the shoot had to be the bumper cars. Yep, I said bumper cars.  And I think Ben enjoyed this part of the day a bit more than Georgia….

FRIDAY FAVES // This Week’s Good Stuff 08.06.12

Beach pebbles

It’s been a bit of a short week, really, hasn’t it? What with a double Jubilee Bank holiday it feels like I’ve lost a few days somewhere.  It’s involved a lot of editing but I did manage to squeeze in a visit to a friend and her adorable little baby girl who has the best “why are you sticking that camera in my face” look I’ve ever seen (photos soon).   The weekend brought a sunny marquee wedding with Lisa Devlin and then  my “out-laws”  came down to visit for the Jubilee festivities.  Throw in lots of south east asian food (pho FTW!) and that pretty much sums up my week.  Things that have amused, informed or bewildered are, in no particular order….

// ONE FOR MAKING YOU SMILE //
Okay, I don’t care how steeley-hearted you are. How can this proposal not put a smile on your face? The best thing about it all is her reaction, it had me in bits!

// ONE FOR THE GROOMS //
I’m totally loving the resurgence of the bow tie at weddings.  In fact, who could ever not like a person wearing one? Really.   Hello In There are a UK company who specialise in bow ties. Go check them out, grooms-to-be.

// ONE FOR THE PATRIOTIC //
Even I was found on Westminister Bridge waving a plasticky Union Jack as the Royal Flotilla sailed past on Sunday. (Do I have any photos of the Queen? Nope. I have lots of photos of the back of some strangers’ heads.  The crowds were pretty mega – I’m not particularly short but I could have done with a few extra inches!).  There’s been a lot of tat floating about – teapots and other kitchenalia being the worst offenders – but I did rather like this tea towel designed by Maria Holmer Dahlgren.  A bit Saul Bass, no?  I also loved this understated Vivienne Westwood Jubilee Scarf.

// ONE FOR THE TASTE(FUL/LESS) //
Tuesday night brought Grayson Perry in televisual form.  He explores issues of Class identity, culture and taste without ever being patronising or dull.  Even though it wasn’t as in-depth as it deserved to be, In The Best Possible Taste is really fascinating and it’s definitely recommended viewing.    Episodes 2 and 3 are still to air (Tuesday nights, C4) and Episode 1 is still catch-uppable on the old 4oD.
